For those
bloggers who now understand the important of split testing in their blog features, here is a simple guide on how to do it.
1. Create two different elements, make sure that they are designed against each other. These elements could either be two search engines, two copies, two ads, two conversion processes, two landing pages, etc.
2. Choose the success metric wherein the test would be judged upon. These could either be time on site, click thru rate (ctr), position, conversion rate, pageviews, etc.
3. Determine the duration period of the success/conversion latency. How long will it take for the samples to return for them to be valid? Wait for the latency period and avoid judging the results yet until the latency period is over.
4. Know the needed confidence level of the result by deciding on its percentage. In the digital world, 95% confidence level of the test result is often recommended.
5. Aside from the success/conversion latency, also determine the duration period of the split test running against each other. A site like feetproblems.org will have to spend at least 14 days as a duration for the test.
6. Decide on the sample size. Most of the time, it is 10% of the total involved population. There are also sample size calculators available on the internet that a person can use. This will offer a more precise number for the desired confidence level.
7. Based on the duration period of the two elements running against each other and the sample size, the minimum active test period will now be determined. It must cover the time needed for the data to be stable and the results to be valid.
8. When all of these are done, run the Active Test.
9. End the Active Test and wait for the average latency period.
10. Using an online calculator designed for split testing, calculate the winner and check if the results go together with the confidence level. If it does not meet the goal confidence level, create another test or change the elements significantly.
